If we want to use our common sense, issues regarding the ocean are much more important than fashion or a reality show. Seventy percent of world’s surface is covered by water and we have an absolute dependency to water from day to day. Without water, we won’t be able to wash our clothes. It is obvious that we should set the priority straight. Water is a very important aspect of any kind of life forms.
Unfortunately, during the same week of #NYFW 2017, a very important conference that focuses on the health of #OurOcean namely Our Ocean Conference did not get as much attention from the mainstream media. We got it. Hearing leaders from 132 countries talking ad exchange ideas were not as amusing as watching Kanye West Yeezy Collection by the Hudson River, but we need to know that illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing (IUUF) has depleted 90.5% the fish stocks over the last ten years. If we don’t take care of the well-being of the ocean, we won’t be able to take an Instagram like-worthy picture of the crystal clear water at the beach, right?
Fortunately, some of #OurOcean heroes took the right actions by advocating and promoting the well-being of #OurOcean. And guess what? Leonardo di Caprio and Adrian Grenier, our celebrity crush, are one of them. In three days, 136 new initiatives with a value of more than $5.24 billion to protect the ocean the ocean were announced.
Here are nine tweets that shows that #OurOcean deserved a dedicated attention and encourage us to take an action:
- When we found out that Leonardo di Caprio was excited in participating at #OurOcean Conference one day before the the day.
2. And he raised awareness by tweeting facts about sharks
3. Secretary Kerry retweeted a photo of him casually walk with Leo.
4. Adrian Grenier also shows his stance on IUFF. He encouraged your conscience to always ask “where was it caught and how was it caught?” Grenier cares! Why can’t we?
5. We also found out that our favourite iconic jeweler, Tiffany & Co has pledged 1.2 million to protect 20% marine regions in the Bahamas. We love Tiffany & Co even more!
6. When President Obama (our favourite POTUS ever) just made another history (again) by announcing the First Marine National Monument
7. The Ambassador of Norway to the US knows what’s cool and take a group selfie to show Norway’s commitment to protecting #OurOcean
8. The Embassy of Indonesia got it, that #OurOcean is LIFE and the country is hosting next year’s Our Ocean Conference in Bali – the real beach is life destination of all.
9. Because #OurOcean is home for more than 2600 species of corals and fishes combined.
The Conference may end last week, but the conversation and efforts to preserve #OurOcean continues!
